Gestational Diabetes Symptoms

Pregnant women with gestational diabetes will notice the following symptoms:

High blood glucose (hyperglycemia)
Becoming more thirsty
Increase and more frequent urination
Weight loss despite an increased in appetite
Fatigue
Nausea
Vomiting
Blurred Vision
Yeast and fungal infections

For some pregnant women they will have no recognizable symptoms and often it is only diagnosed during the routine blood testing that occurs as part of complete prenatal care. Diabetes is only evident if blood sugar is at high levels. Therefore, to find out whether gestational diabetes exist the pregnant woman is given a heavily sugared drink prior to a blood test so that the body’s sugar processing capability is maximally challenged. This test is known as an oral glucose-tolerance test.
